In cruel and unusual food-preparation news, health authorities in China have agreed to crack down on restaurants serving chickens that have been bitten to death by poisonous snakes. The gourmet dish from the province of Guangdong came under fire after video of a chef forcing a snake to repeatedly bite a live chicken surfaced on the Internet, finally toppling "Two Girls, One Cup" from the top of the disturbing video charts.
Outraged citizens called for a halt to the preparation technique and, according to the Chongqing Business Daily, a local health official responded, saying, "Although nobody has been poisoned, this at the very least is an irregular way of slaughtering poultry."
This, coming from a province known for serving live monkey brains, deer-fetus soup and other "delicacies" that would be right at home in the Temple of Doom.
