We do love our great race, but one Swiss horse nut has shown he loves it more than most. Lukas Baumann has spent the last seven months driving -- yes, driving -- to Australia from his home in Zurich to today attend the Melbourne Cup. He sold everything he had, jumped in a second-hand car, and started the journey across the globe.

And now he wants permission to drive his car across the finish line. The biggest hurdle? Lexus is a major sponsor, and he's driving a Volvo.

"They can cover all the badges," says Baumann. "just let us finish our dream after a very long journey."

Does anybody else smell 'book deal'?

We just hope for his sake it's a dry track. It'd be a real bitch to get bogged on the home stretch.
